Welcome Baby Hallie!

Newborn Portrait Session

Baby Hallie came in for her newborn session at 9 days old. Her parents arrived, took her out of her carseat and I squealed with delight at her beautiful face and head full of hair! She was fast asleep and ready for her session!

We started her session with a set of portraits on cream. I am a “neutrals” lover and absolutely love including a “cream” set in my newborn sessions. I think it’s timeless and classic and keeps the focus right on baby.

Seriously?! Look at that face. I just can’t get over how stunning this baby is!

Those that follow my work, know that this “womb pose” is one of my very favourites. Baby Hallie comfortably curled right up and kept on sleeping, likely just how she slept in her Mama’s belly. Now the only difficult part is deciding which is my favourite…. with headband or with bonnet?! What do you think? Good thing Mama didn’t need to choose….. she chose both!

Hallie was such an amazing sleeper, her Dad helped me support her, so I could get this “head on hands” pose. Not every baby likes to have their hands up by their face, so I do not always do this pose, but Hallie was definitely a fan! I just love all the sweet baby features that can be shown off with this pose. *Please note that this image is actually a composite image, involving some Photoshop trickery. Dads hands were always supporting his baby girl.

And because baby Hallie was born during our recent cold spell, I thought it was only fitting that we wrap her up nice and cozy and get some shots of her all bundled up. Here we have the same dilemma….. bonnet or headband?! I always vote for both and can never decide, so I try to get some images with bonnets and some with headbands in my sessions with baby girls.

I am absolutely in love with this new set of floors in my studio. I can’t get enough of them and the wood with these creams and the soft pinks is just perfect. Here are more images of Hallie hanging out and napping in my favourite prop, my floral “drawer.”

Because I’m always dreaming of sunshine and flowers and cannot wait for Spring to arrive, I had to get a few images of Hailey with some fresh tulips. Here’s one of my faves!

And then there were three……. I used to find parent shots to be quite challenging, but now they are some of my very favourite images to shoot. I love shooting on black, so parents can choose whether they like the colour version of the image or the black and white version. In this case, Hailey’s parents chose them all, which gives them so many options. I foresee a gorgeous black and white wall gallery on one of the walls in their home. And maybe another all in colour. Look at these proud new parents!

Hallie’s Mama made one request for her session….. that we create an image with Hailey posed with her Dad in his RCMP serge. We have a special place in our hearts in my own family for RCMP members, so I really LOVED this idea. I had a few “pictures” in my head of what I wanted to achieve and I could not be more pleased that the images we created match my vision perfectly. I am in love with how these turned out.

While there are so many more images I could share from Hallie’s session, I would like to end with this special image. Using a digital backdrop of a “rainbow” of flowers, I created this image with Hallie because Hallie is a “rainbow baby.” I created this piece to both honour her parent’s previous loss and celebrate Hallie’s life…. Because I know how precious life is and just how much of a miracle every new baby is. Congratulations again to Hallie’s parents and welcome to this world, baby girl!
