About Liana

First of all, I’m a lover of amazing portraits. The desire to capture one (and then another!) drives me every time I pick up a camera!

I purchased my first pro camera when I was pregnant with my first child, about 11 years ago.  I knew I was on the precipice of something momentous and I knew I would need to capture what was about to come.  When growing a human inside our body, there is a unique and indescribable feeling that life as we know it is about to change.  We cannot quite grasp how, but we know it is coming.  When that baby girl of mine was born, we took thousands of photos of her.  I had a deep desire to capture every moment, every feature, every detail, as she was changing so quickly and I did not want to forget a thing.  I never tired of holding that camera and when her sister was born we did it all over again.  I will never forget how tiny they were, or what their newly born faces looked like because I have preserved them, in images that I treasure!

Our journey with creating our family was not an easy one and loss has taught us just how miraculous that conceiving, growing and giving birth to another human being truly is.  This understanding has given me a deep desire to capture that miracle of new life.  The celebration.  They joy.  The amazement that new parents have when looking at their baby.  The love that is so palpable it can actually be captured in a photograph.

Now, I know firsthand that this cliché is true….. the days are long but the years are short.  Shockingly so!  They change so much, so quickly and before you know it, you’re 40 years old and have a ten-year-old and an eight-year-old!  ;-)

Photography is something I value greatly.  I value the photos we have printed.  We look at them every single day on our walls. I value the albums I have had made.  We flip through them often. I value the files I have stored digitally on my computer and on hard drives.  We look at them often.  One of my girls’ favourite things to do is to make popcorn, plug a hard drive of our digital files into our T.V. and watch slideshows of our photos…. they love hearing my husband and I tell stories that go along with the images and they LOVE seeing pictures of themselves as babies (it is a hard thing to comprehend at 8 and 10 years old that you were once that tiny baby on the screen and I love watching them delight in this fact over and over again!).

Photographs create a legacy.  They remind us of what was and they capture moments in time that will never be again. They give us something tangible to hold onto those memories.  I feel fortunate and honoured to be capturing my client’s babies when they are new and fresh and so very tiny!  I want families to love their images;  I want people to cry when they see them.  I want them hung on their walls proudly.  I want them to flip through albums with their babies as they grow!

I am mostly self-taught;  I have spent hours studying (also, obsessing over!) photography, attending conferences and workshops, investing in courses and mentoring from other noted photographers and practicing with my own children.

I am fortunate to shoot out of my cozy in-home studio in Langley, B.C.  It is my happy place, all within the comforts of being at home.    I am honoured to welcome families from all over the lower mainland to my happy place!

Can you tell that I also like to write?!  I wrote a blurb about myself in a Facebook post here, if this was not enough for you. ;-)

Otherwise, I thank you for being here – and look forward to talking more soon!

Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so.
